Back to Reality

Wow, a month can certainly fly right on by you. It feels like it was just last week that I first set foot into this country, which I had only been able to dream about before. Now, four weeks later, I have visited countless shrines/temples, met so many amazing people, crammed as much Japanese into my head as possible, and learned so much more about myself. Though this visit was short, I will always keep it alive in my memories. 

In the (extremely) early morning I will once again depart back home. Once back, the fashion will continue full swing! I apologize for my irregular outfit posting. I hope to dedicate much more time to this blog in the coming months. The next few weeks may be a bit hectic, with getting back to school and starting my job again. However, I'll quickly try and find a routine! I hope to bring you more innovative outfits, now that I have been deeply inspired by Japan's amazing sense of fashion. While I may not have many new pieces for a while, due to spending all my money in a foreign country (oops), I do still have more to share!

Japanese Magazine Inspiration

I apologize for the lack of new outfit photos recently! My wardrobe is highly limited at the moment and I feel like I keep using the same clothes every other day practically... Things should become more regular once I'm back home later this week!

To make up for it, today I'll bring some outfits from a different perspective. I picked up 2 Japanese fashion magazines since I've been here and have absolutely loved them!

SEDA (left) is mostly everyday fashion, while KERA (right) showcases fashion found in Harajuku. I'm a huge fan of Harajuku fashion and I find that it describes my style (or what I want it to be, ha). But I found things I loved in both of them!

Here's a glimpse of a few pages from SEDA. I love the variety of styles these girls wear. Many of them are actually very simple, but they're put together so well and look amazing!

These shots are from KERA and I am in love with them. Crazy? Yes, yes they are. Beyond awesome? Oh yes! These are mostly examples of the very extreme Harajuku fashion. But it's honestly my favorite. I love how they're able to put together many different pieces into one complete, amazing looking outfit. This is where my true inspiration is :)

Rabbit for a Day

This time I bring you shots from multiple scenes throughout my day, around the city. A quick thanks to my friend Alyssa for helping me with these photos!

I wore this outfit yesterday and it just may be one of my favorite outfits to date on this blog. I mean who wouldn't love walking around feeling like a rabbit all day?!? Well I for one loved it :) I thought this hair ribbon was cute when I found it in the store, but little did I know how rabbit-y I would become once wearing it. Some of my classmates called me usagi, which means rabbit in Japanese, which was awesome, because then I felt like Sailor Moon, greatest hero of all time. Any Sailor Moon fans out there hearing me out?

Overall, this was a very Japanese-inspired outfit. Especially considering that all of my accessories were purchased here, ha. I often have trouble actually figuring out how to describe what my style really is. I can't seem to just label it with any old word. I tend to describe it as a combination of crazy/edgy/unique/cute. I would probably describe this outfit as a product of that description. In general, it is my belief to wear whatever I think is awesome and makes me feel beautiful when I wear it, and not care what anybody else thinks about it, even if it is loud and out there. To me, that's what fashion is all about.

Here are a few brief happenings from this week:

Viewed thousands of colorful origami cranes made for Hiroshima after WWII (left) and pet deer on the adjacent island of Miyajima (right). Yes you read that correctly, I pet the deer.

Saw the beautiful torii in the water (left) and captured this gorgeous pagoda on Miyajima (right).

Made my own origami box (left) and walked through extremely cold purifying water at a temple (right). It was so refreshing after a very hot day!

And I ate the most delicious chocolate parfait of my life!

Lastly, I watched the latest Pokémon movie earlier tonight!! This would be the one that just recently came out in Japan and is not out in the states yet! But that of course meant it was all in Japanese and I could only pick up about a handful of what they were saying aside from Pikachu saying pika-pi! haha. It was still a very enjoyable time with friends.

Two buns and a Tokyo expedition

I am back from a long weekend in Tokyo! It was an eventful and exhausting one, but well worth it! I wore this outfit on Friday, when we went sightseeing as a group. I'm standing in front of part of the Imperial Palace, where the Emperor of Japan resides. It was a super comfortable outfit to wear while walking around in the much cooler weather compared to Kyoto. These buns were inspired by the Japanese, who seriously have the coolest hair ever. I want it! Plus it reminds me of Sailor Moon, which is the bestest ever.  They were kind of falling out at this point in the day, but I still get points for effort, right?

Here's a quick rundown of the weekend's events:
-Rose the shinkansen, the super fast bullet train!
-Visited Harajuku (FINALLY!) and got a taste of shopping there. Already fell in love.
-Saw the Imperial Palace
-Viewed the Tokyo Sky Tree from afar
-Found an awesome tiny store that sold Miyazaki merchandise. You guys have seen his amazing movies, right? If not, you must!!
-Spent 3 hours shopping at 109 in Shibuya, a 10-floor mall filled with a ton of boutiques of all women's fashion. It was quite awesome.
-Went back to Harajuku for a little more shopping. I now have a favorite store called Paris Kid's, which has the most amazing hair accessories, pins, jewelry, and other stuff for super cheap!! It was wonderful.
-Went to the Pokémon Center!!!! This was the one thing I could not leave Tokyo without doing. I walked in, went crazy, and put stuff in my basket without caring much for the price. This is why I saved my money before coming, right?
-Briefly visited Akihabara, the "Electric City" of Tokyo. It's known for it's electronics and was quite busy today, but nice to see.

And that's the weekend in a few words or so. Hopefully this weekend I will be able to catch up on rest, however that is highly doubtful, ha. I may share some of my awesome finds later this week, if anyone finds it of interest!

Greetings from Japan!

Konnichiwa! It has been quite a while, and I apologize. But I lost a day during my travel and things have been non-stop busy since I've been here in Japan! So many exciting things to do and to see. We're trying to do a lot in the short month we have while we're all here. Hopefully we can make the most of it!

This weekend we visited quite a few shrines and temple. The architecture and gardens are amazing and so beautiful! Today and tomorrow is the Gion Festival in Kyoto (Gion Matsuri). I believe it's Japan's largest festival! For these occasions, the Japanese wear a yukata (summer kimono), which are all different patterns and so cool! I am wearing my very own above. A small group of us went downtown together. Many of the streets were closed and filled with tons of stands with people selling a huge variety of food, drinks, and games! It was fun to try all the different foods. I played a typical Japanese festival game, where you attempt to catch a fish into a bowl with a small paper paddle. I didn't get it but I was so excited to finally try it!
